Don't miss out on such an occasion an register here and now

Exciting news! Our new paper was published in Angewandte Chemie.

Exciting news! Apeiron’s team has developed bis-(CAAC)Ru indenylidene complexes for olefin metathesis, which was recently published in Angewandte Chemie (CAAC stands for cyclic alkyl amino carbene). The unique feature of these catalysts is that they are extremely effective in the formation of both terminal and internal C=C bonds; TON exceeding 300000 was achieved. Until our discovery the state-of-the-art in olefin metathesis has been the application of N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) containing ruthenium alkylidenes for the formation of internal C=C bonds and of cyclic alkyl amino carbene (CAAC) containing ruthenium benzylidenes in the production of terminal olefins. As such our new catalysts combine the scope previously shared between these two catalyst families. You can find the article here.

Apeiron’s portfolio in STREM is expanding.

We are delighted to announce that two new catalysts HeatMet and FixCat are now available via Strem.

HeatMet represents an excellent tool for precise ROMP control. This catalyst at 20 ppm loading and temperatures above 60C affords quantitative yields of poly(DCPD).

FixCat was developed as a versatile catalyst for efficient homo- and heterogeneous systems. Additionally, it falls into the section of our supporting technologies: Apeiron’s metal scavenging solutions. Together with SnatchCat scavenger this catalyst facilitates purification of the metathesis products from residual ruthenium. To find out more please see our brochure - PDF. We strongly believe that our customers will be able to further accelerate the progress of research development in their respective domains by deploying our expanded line of products.

Advantages of nitro-Grela shown in the recent publication.

We are happy to see that advantages of Apeiron’s catalysts are being noticed also in the academia. Researchers at Jagiellonian University Medical College and Universite de Montpellier lead by Frederic Lamaty have published a comprehensive study presenting ring-closing metathesis (RCM) approach towards synthesis of substituted pyrroles. The study included evaluation of metathesis catalysts where Apeiron’s nitro-Grela outperformed the competition in the majority of tested reaction conditions. Importantly, obtained series of 2-aryl-1H-pyrrole- 3-carboxylates represent an attractive building block, particularly in the context of CNS-oriented compound libraries. To learn more about the topic please access the publication (Tetrahedron 2016, 72, 7462-7469)

We will be there: 17-19 October OPRD Conference in Prague.

Yet another leading process chemistry conference organized by Scientific Update – The Organic Process Research and Development. This time the event takes place in our direct neighborhood - in the charming city of Prague. We wouldn’t miss such great opportunity! Apeiron’s delegates, Dr Katarzyna Kaczanowska and Joanna Drygajło will be there to learn from the industry leaders and to network with a fine selection of their chemists.

As always, the list of speakers is long and impressive and the topic selection emphasizes catalytic processes. We are looking forward to the Johnson Matthey workshop where the experts will give us insights into the latest advancements in catalysis technologies.

Apeiron exhibits at Chemspec Europe in Basel

Chemspec Europe 2016 is the international exhibition for fine and speciality chemicals. The 31st edition of this highly successful industry event will take place from 1–2 June 2016 in one of Europe’s major hubs for the industry, Basel in Switzerlad. For the first time Apeiron will have a strong technical and sales team in place.

This year we will focus on our new products and applications such as heterogeneous catalyst and metal scavengers. Our catalysts are designed to enable for the first time metathesis in continuous flow. For some applications we achieved lower than 50 ppm catalyst loading and TON above 90,000. As expected, they lead to products with ruthenium levels comparable or lower to those obtained with scavengers present at the purification step, (i.e. below 1 ppm).

Please come and visit us at the stand E102 - Michał Bieniek, CEO; Joanna Drygajlo, Sales Manager and Andrzej Tracz, Senior Scientist will be happy to explore possibilities of cooperation with you.

Our White Paper - “Olefin Metathesis: New Catalysts, New Solutions for Process Chemistry”

At Apeiron Synthesis we are committed to create technologies and processes that are functional, cost-effective, and environmentally benign while employing olefin metathesis.

In a recent article published by Strem in the Chemiker entitled: Olefin Metathesis: New Catalysts, New Solutions for Process Chemistry readers will find an in depth overview of catalysts developed by Apeiron which make development of metathesis-based processes feasible and cost-effective.

The article, starts out by describing an interesting case in which our catalyst has been employed for the synthesis of Hepatitis C protease inhibitor for Boehringer Ingelheim (making this the first example of a truly practical RCM macrocyclization) and then moves on to discuss latest developments in the area of heterogeneous catalysts.

As described in the article, efficient heterogeneous catalysts provide excellent opportunities for design of continuous flow processes and present exceptionally easy synthesis of products with very low amounts of residual ruthenium. The low loadings achievable with our robust catalysts create possibilities for application of olefin metathesis within a broad range of sectors in the chemical industry.

Prestigious recognition award for Apeiron’s scientific advisor prof. Karol Grela

Last year our advisor, Professor Karol Grela received the highest scientific award from the Foundation for Polish Science (FNP).

This award recognized Professor Karol Grela for developing new catalysts for olefin metathesis reactions and applying them in industrial practice.

Scientific achievements of prof. Karol Grela include over 120 scientific publications and 12 patents protected in a few dozen countries around the world. His research has found many practical applications. He works closely with the pharmaceutical industry, and is a member of Polpharma S.A.’s Scientific Advisory Board among other posts.

During the award ceremony the Minister of Science prof. Lena Kolarska-Bobińska, said:
“The winners were the best of the best. Awards Foundation reaches the hands of great scholars whose scientific work not only exceeds the limits of existing knowledge, but also is an example of excellence in science”.

We would like to congratulate prof. Grela once again. We are extremely proud of having him by our side!

Keep up the good work!

To find out about the latest book edited by prof. Grela “Olefin Metathesis: Theory and Practice” please read our note below.

Olefin Metathesis: Theory and Practice. Edited by Karol Grela, John Wiley and Sons, 2014

During the last few decades, olefin metathesis has gained considerable importance in modern synthetic chemistry as a preferred methodology for manipulation of carbon–carbon double bonds, offering an attractive and simplified alternative to traditional methods for synthesizing complex organic molecules and polymers.

Worldwide importance of these findings was recognized by the award of the 2005 Nobel Prize to Y. Chauvin, R. R. Schrock, and R. H. Grubbs. Their major achievements and other relevant developments in the field were described in the comprehensive three-volume Handbook of Metathesis edited by R. H. Grubbs and published in 2003. Since then, continuing growth of the field has justified a publication of the new single-volume book edited by Professor Grela. This book is a perfect companion for every chemist who wishes to enter the “change partner’s dance” of double bonds.

Professor Karol Grela has been recently awarded Prize of Foundation for Polish Science (FNP), the so called “Polish Nobel Prize” (for more details please see our note above)

The last but definitely not least important chapter of this book, “Purification Strategies in Olefin Metathesis”, is written by two members of Apeiron’s scientific team – Lukasz Gułajski and Krzysztof Skowerski.

The authors describe most effective methods of removal of residual ruthenium from crude metathesis products in view of their commercial applications and industrial experiences. A possible choice between scavengers and modified solid-supported catalysts is widely described and their respective advantages and disadvantages are discussed.
